10,000 STEP PER DAY CHALLENGE!!

Okay Challengers - are you ready for this!!?

A 10,000 STEP PER DAY CHALLENGE!!

This has come about partly as a result of participating in the Relay for Life (and a friend of mine bringing a pedometer over with her on her visit to Melbourne)... so I've decided to shake things up a little bit and break the usual format of the Half Dozen Challenge.

This time the 'Half Dozen' refers to the length of time we will run the challenge over.
You will need to purchase a pedometer if you don't already have one - but don't panic - you can pick up a cheapie from somewhere like K-Mart or Target for under $10... I'm wearing my $9 Target pedometer right now ;)

We will be kicking off WEDNESDAY 30TH MARCH - this gives you time to get used to putting the pedometer on daily and to set your baseline (which is the number of steps you would do in an average day). There are instructions on the site on how to work out your baseline.

As a guide, the average person walks about 100 steps per minute.
10,000 steps is roughly equivalent to seven or eight kilometres of walking.
That may sound like a long walk, but the idea is not to do it all at once, but rather accumulate it over the course of your entire day. Walk to the shop to get some milk, walk a bit further from where you park the car, and take as many opportunities as you can during the day to acquire steps. Simply put, be a bit more self-propelled during the day. Depending on your habits, you may or may not need to add some extra walking before or after work to achieve the 10,000 step goal.

We will look at using the first 3 weeks to build up to the 10,000 a day then the last 3 weeks will be looking at aiming for 10,000 steps per day.
